Safeguarding the environment is as important to us as making superior windows and doors. We conscientiously strive to be a good steward of our limited natural resources and are committed to the principles of Sustainable Forestry Management. We’re serious about protecting the environment. And we know you are too.

Eagle products utilize recycled materials to make the most out of our limited natural resources.

  • Our clad window and door frames are built with laminated veneer lumber (LVL). This engineered wood product is made with timber harvested from managed forests. And since wood is a completely renewable resource we use these engineered wood products whenever possible.
  • A portion of the glass we use in our products is made from cullet (broken glass). We save tons of waste from being dumped into our landfills each year by utilizing recycled glass.
  • Our aluminum components are made with a high percentage of recycled aluminum to reduce waste. The process also consumes dramatically less energy than manufacturing virgin aluminum.

We also recycle our paints and solvents, scrap aluminum, sawdust and office paper. All of our wood primers, topcoats and polyurethane coatings are water-based, not oil-based. The electrostatic paint system used for our aluminum extrusions attracts the paint to the aluminum, creating much less waste.

We also encourage environmental stewardship through our support of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® program. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program is a voluntary standard for the development of high-performance, sustainable buildings. As a member of the USGBC, Eagle is dedicated to creating products and systems that comply with LEED standards to promote integrated, whole-building design practices.

Our products offer LEED credits in the Green Building Rating System for New Construction and Major Renovation. The following pages detail the potential credits our products can provide.

Taking care to preserve our environment is everyone’s responsibility. Eagle Window & Door provides you the opportunity to incorporate green products into your projects.

PREREQUISITE
EA Prerequisite 2: Minimum Energy Performance Required
Intent: Establish the minimum level of energy efficiency for the proposed building and system. LEED Requirement: Design the building envelope, HVAC, lighting and other systems to maximize energy performance using the mandatory provision of ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004 and the prescriptive requirements or performance requirements of ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004.

1 - 10

POINTS

EA Credit 1: Optimize Energy Performance
Intent: Achieve increasing levels of energy performance above the baseline in the prerequisite standard to reduce environmental and economic impacts associated with excessive energy use. LEED Requirement: Design the building envelope and systems to maximize energy performance. Quantify energy performance as compared to a baseline building.

1 - 3

POINTS

EA Credit 2: On-site Renewable Energy
Intent: Encourage and recognize increasing levels of on-site renewable energy self-supply in order to reduce environmental and economic impacts associated with fossil fuel energy use. LEED Requirement: Use on-site renewable energy systems to offset building energy costs. Calculate project performance by expressing the energy produced by the renewable systems as a percentage of the building’s annual energy cost.

1

POINT

MR Credit 4.1: Recycled Content—10% (Post-consumer + 1/2 pre-consumer)
Intent: Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. LEED Requirement: Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% (based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project.

1

POINT

MR Credit 4.2: Recycled Content—20% (Post-consumer + 1/2 pre-consumer)
Intent: Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. LEED Requirement: Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 20% (based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project.

1

POINT

MR Credit 5.1: Regional Materials—10% Extracted, Processed & Manufactured Regionally
Intent: Increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation. LEED Requirement: Use building materials or products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum of 10% (based on cost) of the total materials’ value.

1

POINT

MR Credit 5.2: Regional Materials—20% Extracted, Processed & Manufactured Regionally
Intent: Increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation. LEED Requirement: Use building materials or products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum of 20% (based on cost) of the total materials’ value.

REQUIRED
EQ Prerequisite 1: Minimum IAQ Performance
Intent: Establish minimum indoor air quality (IAQ) performance to enhance indoor air quality in buildings, thus contributing to the comfort and well-being of the occupants. LEED Requirement: Design ventilation systems to meet or exceed the minimum outdoor air ventilation rates as described in the ASHRAE standard.

1

POINT

EQ Credit 2: Increased Ventilation
Intent: Provide additional outdoor air ventilation to improve indoor air quality for improved comfort, well-being and productivity. LEED Requirement: Increase breathing zone outdoor air ventilation rates to all occupied spaces by at least 30% above the minimum rates required by ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2004 or design natural ventilation systems for occupied spaces to meet the recommendations set forth in the Carbon Trust “Good Practices Guide 237”.

1

POINT

EQ Credit 4.2: Low-emitting Materials—Paints & Coatings
Intent: Reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and well-being of installers and occupants. LEED Requirement: Paints and coatings used on the interior of the building shall comply with stated LEED requirements.

1

POINT

EQ Credit 4.4: Low-emitting Materials—Composite Wood & Agrifiber Products
Intent: Reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and well-being of installers and occupants. LEED Requirement: Specify wood and agrifiber products that contain no added urea-formaldehyde resins. Specify laminating adhesives for field and shop applied assemblies that contain no urea-formaldehyde resins.

1

POINT

EQ Credit 6.2: Controllability of Systems—Thermal Comfort
Intent: Provide a high level of thermal comfort to system control by individual occupants or by specific groups in multi-occupant spaces to promote the productivity, comfort and well-being of building occupants. LEED Requirement: Provide individual comfort controls for 50% (minimum) of the building occupants to enable adjustments to suit individual task needs and preferences.

1

POINT

EQ Credit 7.1: Thermal Comfort—Design
Intent: Provide a comfortable thermal environment that supports the productivity and well-being of building occupants. LEED Requirement: Establish comfort criteria per ASHRAE Standard 55-2004 that support the desired quality and occupant satisfaction with building performance.

1
